President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu returned to Malé today following the successful conclusion of his official visit to Germany, undertaken at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
During the visit, the two leaders held official talks centered on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in international forums. Discussions focused on expanding ties through high-level engagements and formal agreements on areas of mutual interest.
A key highlight of the trip was the Maldives-Germany Business Round-table, where information was shared on emerging investment opportunities for German companies in the Maldives. Addressing the forum, President Muizzu outlined the government’s economic policies and encouraged German investors to explore prospects in the Maldives, emphasizing the country’s ongoing economic diversification and expanding opportunities.
At the round-table, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Visit Maldives and DERTOUR Deutschland GmbH, one of Europe’s leading travel and tourism groups. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in destination promotion and marketing initiatives.
During his visit, President Muizzu also toured Humboldt University of Berlin, where he delivered a special address highlighting the Maldives’ experience and leadership in climate change resilience.
Additionally, he spoke at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), focusing on the strategic importance of oceans in shaping foreign policy.
The President further participated in an official banquet commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. Maldivians residing in Germany attended the event, and President Muizzu also met separately with members of the Maldivian community who were present.
