The Non-Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Bhutan, Ms. Shiuneen Rasheed, presented her credentials to His Majesty King Jigme Kesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan. The credential ceremony was held on 13 February 2026 in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Following the ceremony, His Majesty welcomed Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed and congratulated her on assuming her duties as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Bhutan.
During the meeting, Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and conveyed the best wishes and greetings of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to His Majesty the King and the people of Bhutan.
The Ambassador highlighted that the Government of the Maldives places high priority on strengthening the longstanding friendship and close ties between the Maldives and Bhutan. She further emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest and benefit.
During her visit, Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed also paid courtesy calls on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bhutan. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation in key priority sectors.
The Ambassador is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment of Bhutan.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed Ms. Shiuneen Rasheed, who currently serves as the Ambassador of the Maldives to Bangladesh, as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Bhutan on 26 February 2026.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bhutan were established on 13 July 1984.
