President Dr. Muizzu has said the safety and security of the Maldives — past, present and future — are bound to the Islamic faith.
He made the remarks in a special post on X marking 900 years since Maldivians received the guidance of Islam.
Opening his message with praise and thanks to Allah, President Dr. Muizzu said Maldivians have for 900 years accepted Islam as the strongest pillar of national identity, passing it from generation to generation. He said Maldivian life, culture and all dealings are grounded in Islamic principles, and that the people have always stood firm in defending the nation and the faith with the noble resolve of striving in the path of Allah.
Over the past nine centuries, he said, every victory Maldivians have achieved, along with national development and honour, has its foundation in Islam. Extending greetings and congratulations to all Maldivians on the occasion, he prayed that the people remain forever as Muslims and that Allah grant this homeland security and dignity through the blessings of Islam.
The government has decided to mark the historic year of the Maldives’ 900th anniversary of embracing Islam with strong emphasis, and President Dr. Muizzu noted that various programmes are planned throughout the year.
