Work to amend the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) basic constitution has begun at the party's Congress. At today's session of the Congress underway at Malé City Hall, amendments to the basic constitution were submitted and discussed and resolutions were presented, with 368 delegates taking part in the meeting.
Among the amendments submitted are proposals to abolish the posts of party president and vice president and make chairperson the highest office, and to appoint the chairperson as the principal adviser to the President of the Republic. Proposals have also been submitted to seek the advice of island governing committees when determining political posts and policies, and to abolish the practice of appointing people to the People's Majlis without an election.
During the Congress the party also launched an MDP mobile application carrying the party's news and information, and agreements linked to the Invest Forum held yesterday are scheduled to be signed today. The Congress closing ceremony will be held this evening at 9:00pm.
