Iran’s military has warned the United States that any fresh attack could spread the war across a much wider part of West Asia. Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said on Saturday that if President Donald Trump “once again embarks on more regional adventurism” under pressure from Israel, “the flames of war will undoubtedly engulf a much wider geographical area.”
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi added that Iran’s armed forces were ready to respond to anyone who harms its people. The warnings came as a Qatari delegation held talks in Tehran, with Qatar and Pakistan trying to bridge differences between Washington and Tehran, so far without a lasting deal.
The Wall Street Journal reported that US Vice President JD Vance had sent a letter to Iran’s security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, at Trump’s direction in a bid to restart negotiations. Tehran has confirmed receiving the letter but has not disclosed its response.
The war began in late February when US and Israeli strikes killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior commanders. Iran has since blocked the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global energy supplies and pushing up fuel prices ahead of Tuesday’s US midterm elections.
