President Dr Mohamed Muizzu arrived in the Bangladesh this morning on an official visit scheduled from 16 to 18 February 2026.
The visit is taking place at the invitation of Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh. President Muizzu is set to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the new government on 17 February.
The visit follows a landmark parliamentary election in Bangladesh, where the Bangladesh Nationalist Party secured a strong majority, winning 212 out of 299 seats, according to official results. Tarique Rahman is expected to assume office as Prime Minister. President Muizzu is also scheduled to meet the incoming Prime Minister during his stay.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh were established on 22 September 1978. The visit is expected to further strengthen cooperation and ties between the two countries.
