Maldivian swimmers Looth Mohamed Hussain and Ibrahim Ma'adh Sajidh have brought home pride and glory after a stunning performance at the Asian Open School Invitational Shortcourse Championship, held at the Arctic Center, Assumption University in Bangkok, Thailand.
Representing New Lagoon Swimming Club, both Looth and Ma’adh clinched five gold medals each, leading their club to an impressive third-place overall finish in the regional competition.
Looth, competing in the Under-16 category, showcased exceptional talent in the pool, winning four individual gold medals and adding a fifth gold as part of New Lagoon’s winning relay team.
In the Under-18 category, Ma’adh mirrored his teammate’s achievement, also securing four individual gold medals, with his fifth coming from the same victorious relay team event.
The championship, which took place from Saturday to Tuesday, saw participation from over 40 swimmers representing New Lagoon. The Maldivian club’s swimmers had a strong showing, collectively earning:

Including results from relay events, New Lagoon swimmers brought home a total of 37 medals, with an additional gold and bronze coming from the team relay categories.
Besides New Lagoon, athletes from Club Big Riya and Aqua Fina also represented the Maldives, adding to the nation's growing presence and competitiveness in regional swimming competitions.
The achievements of Looth and Ma’adh have been widely celebrated by the Maldivian sports community, as the country continues to make waves in the international swimming scene.
