Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has consulted former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) about contesting the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) primary for the 2028 presidential election.
The meeting was held at Ibu's official office. Faisal's side has not disclosed further details of the discussion.

After 16 years in the Jumhooree Party, Faisal joined the MDP in February 2024. Also openly campaigning for the MDP presidential ticket are former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail, and Majlis member Dr. Ahmed Shamheed.
The ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC) has already awarded its next election ticket to President Dr. Muizzu.
