People's National Congress (PNC) Secretary General Al-Ustaz Moosa Fathhi Adam said that what emerged from the inaugural session of the PNC Upper Council was the scene of former President Mohamed Nasheed — leader of the largest opposition party — remaining free, and that President Dr. Muizzu has practically proven there will be no political prisoners in this government.
Highlighting such positive changes appearing in the political arena, Fathhi noted that in previous administrations, senior political figures and opposition leaders had to sit behind prison bars. However, he said President Dr. Muizzu is a leader who has completely ended the ugly culture of jailing rivals and has removed the spirit of political vengeance and retaliation from the country.
Although previously what was heard from political party meetings were voices of eliminating and intimidating rivals, today what is being seen is a scene of all sides working together united, he noted.
Although imprisoning people because of political thought and views is something that has repeatedly occurred in Maldives political history, Fathhi said one of the foremost policies of President Dr. Muizzu's government is not imprisoning any leader or ordinary citizen for a political purpose. In that regard, he described the participation of senior leaders from the MDP, MNP and Adhaalath Party — in addition to PNC — at this session as the most perfect example of freedom and unity.
