The police have arrested a man on suspicion of damaging electrical distribution boxes at the Vinares flats and stealing copper wires from them.
Arrested under a court order in connection with this case is Nasrullah Shakeel Hussain, 38, from Lookingglass, G.Dh. Thinadhoo. According to the police, the case was reported last Sunday, and the suspect was apprehended yesterday. When brought before the court to determine his remand, the court ordered him to be detained for a period of 15 days.
The incident took place on the second floor of Vinares Tower 9. Upon receiving the report, police dispatched to the scene noted that extensive damage had been caused to the electrical boxes on that floor. The police further informed that the earth wires inside the electrical boxes had been cut and the copper strips stolen.
As the police continue to investigate this case, another similar theft occurred in Malé last Saturday. In that incident, police arrested two individuals who smashed the glass window of a hardware store and stole several rolls of copper wire.
