President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has characterized China as an unwavering and trustworthy nation that consistently assists the Maldives in implementing crucial projects vital for its economic and infrastructural development.
Speaking during the fourth episode of "The Pulse" podcast, produced by the President's Office, the President stated that his administration's foreign policy is to maintain close ties with all countries around the world for any endeavor that benefits the Maldivian people. However, he emphasized that China has been a particularly helpful and "reliable partner" in the Maldives' development projects, economic progress, and housing sector.
The President also addressed one of Malé’s most significant issues: recurrent flooding of its streets. He noted that this has been a persistent challenge that no previous government has been able to fully resolve. Nevertheless, the President expressed full confidence that the major road construction project in Malé, being carried out under Chinese government grant aid, will provide a permanent solution to the flooding problem.
Highlighting China's significant assistance in the Maldives' development projects, which benefit Maldivian citizens across economic, housing, and infrastructural development spheres, the President affirmed that his administration's policy is to continue such collaborative efforts with the Chinese government. He also assured that, given China's reliability as a partner, the government would work closely on these projects and provide all necessary cooperation.
Discussing the commencement date for the practical work on Malé's road development project, President Dr. Muizzu stated that Chinese contractors are expected to arrive in the Maldives and begin work late this year. He mentioned that the final administrative stages before the project's commencement are currently underway and emphasized that once started, the work would proceed swiftly and without interruption. The President concluded his remarks by reiterating that China plays a vital role in the Maldives' infrastructural transformation, and therefore, the government will provide its full cooperation to further strengthen ties with China and successfully complete such development projects.
