President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Ameeza, of Cozyround, Gadhdhoo, Gdh. Atoll, as the Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
President Muizzu's appointment of Ameeza to this position follows the People's Majlis' approval last Thursday. The Majlis committee, after an interview process, awarded her a score of 92.44%, with all members concurring that she meets the qualifications for the post.
The position of Commissioner General of Taxation became vacant following the resignation of Hassan Zareer, who previously held the post. Zareer resigned after President Muizzu appointed him as the Minister of Finance and Treasury.
Fathimath Ameeza is a capable individual with over 16 years of service at MIRA, most recently serving as the Deputy Commissioner General. She has consistently worked to reform tax policies, strengthen institutional governance, and enhance revenue generation across the entire institution.
Notably, as the head of MIRA's Enforcement Division, she significantly advanced efforts to recover outstanding tax and non-tax revenues by utilizing data analytics and evidence-based policies.
Academically, Fathimath Ameeza holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the International Islamic University Malaysia. Additionally, she completed her Bachelor's Degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
