A Russian drone struck a passenger train travelling from Kyiv to Warsaw on Sunday near Ukraine’s border with Poland, damaging the locomotive. Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski described the attacks as an “escalation” of the war and urged Ukraine’s partners to double their support.
The train was hit in Ukraine’s Volyn region, about two kilometres from the Polish border near the Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing. Poland’s PKP Intercity said 206 passengers were on board. Ukrainian railway authorities had evacuated the train after a warning of a possible drone threat, and no casualties were reported. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Moscow “deliberately” struck the train.
In separate attacks near the same border area, a truck was hit about 800 metres from a crossing and a petrol station near Yahodyn was damaged. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the strikes as a direct threat to the European Union and Nato, urging international partners to respond.
