The US Defense Department’s Inspector General has told Congress that American forces have lost at least 18 soldiers and more than 40 aircraft in the war with Iran, according to a Firstpost report on the watchdog’s findings.
The report also flagged shortfalls in munitions stockpiles, undercutting claims by US President Donald Trump that inventories remained adequate as the conflict continued.
It is among the first detailed official tallies of US combat losses since the wider West Asia fighting intensified, and paints a picture of significant damage to forces and facilities across the theatre.
