The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has elected six people as deputy presidents during a session of the party’s Upper Council.
Eight candidates contested the posts, with a total of 1,095 members casting ballots. Those elected and the votes they received are:
Abdullah Rafeeu: 968 votes
Ahmed Shiyam: 964 votes
Fathimath Sauda: 923 votes
Ibrahim Shujaau: 862 votes
Mohamed Saeed: 833 votes
Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu): 780 votes
The unsuccessful candidates were Local Government Authority (LGA) chief executive Mohamed Nimala, who received 301 votes, and People’s Majlis Maafannu Medhu constituency member Asma Rasheed, who received 288 votes.
Those elected will take the oath of office this evening at a ceremony attended by the party president and President Dr. Muizzu. Over the coming days, the congress will also elect members to other party posts, hold information sessions with ministers, run special programmes for youth and women, and set out plans for the period ahead. Any complaints related to the election results may be filed in line with party rules.
