The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has written to the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office seeking summons for Thinadhoo City Mayor Saud Ali and three former council members over the illegal release of land plots to a private company for a bakery business.
Those sought for summons alongside Mayor Saud are Aminath Naseema, Ahumaima Ahmed and Aishath Liusha Zubair, who served as members of Ga. Thinadhoo Council's fourth term. They are to face a charge of misuse of official position under Article 513(a) of the Maldives Penal Code.
According to the ACC, rules on releasing land for purposes other than residential use state that land must not be released for industrial or commercial use without opening a bid. Despite that, the three council members endorsed giving unauthorised benefit to the company without an announcement.
The ACC also said Saud Ali signed an agreement on 1 November 2023 and illegally released three plots totalling 2,000 square feet to the company.
