Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has officially announced that he will contest the primary the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will hold to choose its candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
Speaking on Raajje TV's "Fashaairu" programme today, Faisal said Malé City Mayor Adam Azim would stand as his running mate.
Both noted that the decision was made with the full support of, and in consultation with, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Faisal also said that even if he does not win the primary, he will work with whoever wins it to bring the MDP back to power.
Besides Faisal Naseem, those who have already announced they will contest the MDP presidential primary are former party chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, former party president Abdulla Shahid and Member of Parliament Ahmed Shamheed.
