Police have arrested two foreign teachers in connection with separate cases of suspected sexual abuse of children at a school on an island in the South Central Police Division.
Police said they began investigating a case in which a 16-year-old girl at a school on the island is suspected to have been sexually abused. In connection with this case, a 52-year-old foreign male teacher was arrested under a court order on 14 October. When he was brought before the court for a ruling on his detention, he was remanded for 15 days.
In addition, another case concerning the suspected sexual abuse of girls aged 12 and 13 on the same island was reported to police on 17 October 2026.
This case involves allegations against a different person. In connection with it, another 52-year-old foreign male teacher was arrested under a court order on 23 October. When he was brought before the court, he was ordered to be held in custody for 30 days.
According to police, the two cases reported from the same island involve two different suspects. Police said both cases are being treated as very serious and that further investigation is under way.
