Former Defence Minister and Chief of Defence Force, Major General (Retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel, has been appointed as the Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC). President Dr. Muizzu made the appointment on Thursday under the powers vested in the President.
The NCTC, which has operated under the Ministry of Defence since 2016, is the main centre working to prevent the spread of extremism and terrorism in the Maldives and to protect the country from such threats to national security.
Moosa Ali Jaleel served in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for more than 32 years. He retired from military service on 9 February 2012 after holding the post of Chief of Defence Force, the highest position in the MNDF.
In recognition of the courage and steadfastness he showed in defending the country's independence during the attack on the Maldives on 3 November 1988, he has received the 3 November Medal and the Presidential Medal, along with several other medals of honour. President Dr. Muizzu's government has also conferred on him a high state honour recognising military leadership, in recognition of his distinguished services to the nation.
