The election of Khalil al-Hayya as the top leader of the political bureau of the Palestinian movement Hamas proves that the "Islamic Resistance" fighting against Israeli and US attacks is now stronger than ever and remains unyielding, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said.
Al-Hayya, who has been heading Hamas's temporary leadership council following the martyrdom of Yahya Sinwar in 2024, was elected to the top position of the group's political bureau. He secured the position against former political leader Khaled Meshaal in an internal vote by Hamas's Shura Council.
Al-Hayya has played a pivotal role in Hamas's foreign relations and diplomatic negotiations with Israel, and maintains a very close alliance with Iran.
In a congratulatory message sent to Hamas's new leadership, the Iranian Quds Force commander stated that Israel's attempts to weaken Hamas by assassinating its prominent leaders have completely failed. Iran further expressed confidence that under al-Hayya's leadership, the Palestinian struggle for liberation would proceed with renewed vigor and determination.
Political analysts note that the rise of al-Hayya, who maintains a close relationship with Tehran, to Hamas's top leadership indicates that the military and political alliance between Iran and Hamas will continue to strengthen in the future.
