The driver of the taxi involved in an accident in Malaysia that killed a young Maldivian woman studying there has tested positive for drugs.
The student who died has been identified as 21-year-old Aminath Imilee Nazim, from S. Hithadhoo. She died in a crash on the way home after a visit to a shopping mall. Imilee, who was trapped inside the vehicle, died of severe injuries, while another Maldivian student travelling with her sustained minor injuries.
According to the police investigation, the 37-year-old taxi driver tested positive for methamphetamine.
The Shah Alam First Magistrate's Court has granted police a four-day remand order to hold the driver while the case is investigated. Imilee's body has been taken to the Forensic Department of Shah Alam Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
