Attorney General Ahmed Usham has said the reports of the "death commission", formed by the previous government to investigate cases of enforced disappearances and murders, are being reviewed and that he will advise the President on them within the next month or so.
Speaking at the government's "Aha" forum, the Attorney General said that although the commission had not completed its work when the government changed, its term was extended until June 2024 on the instruction of President Dr. Muizzu, and reports on some cases were submitted to the President during that period.
He said work is now under way to study the reports in depth and identify those containing information that can be made public. However, he said the main challenge is that, because of the way the reports were compiled and the information they contain, they include confidential police intelligence.
While the extent to which that information can be disclosed is being assessed, the decision on whether to make the reports public rests with the President.
The Attorney General also said he would meet the family of missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla and share the information that can be disclosed in his case.
