A special flag-hoisting ceremony was held this morning to commemorate the 136th anniversary of the Maldives Customs Service with grand celebrations.
The honorable ceremony, held at the Customs’ headquarters, was graced by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusan. Also in attendance were the Commissioner General of Customs, Fathimath Dhiyana, along with Deputy Commissioners, members of Customs’ senior management, and a large number of Customs officers.
This ceremony is a traditional annual event that acknowledges Customs’ long history and its crucial role in safeguarding the nation's security and economy. Following the flag hoisting, a special prayer was offered for Customs’ anniversary.

Established on July 18, 1890, as "Bandaarige," Customs is one of the oldest and most dedicated institutions in the Maldives. Over the past 136 years, Customs has achieved significant successes in collecting duties on goods imported into and exported from the Maldives, as well as in preventing the entry of materials that pose a threat to national security. Specifically, this includes implementing robust border measures to prevent the entry of illicit drugs and weapons into the Maldives, and as a member of the World Customs Organization, introducing international best practices to the country.
