Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihsaan, has announced that the government is prioritizing the digitalization of Maldives Customs Service operations with modern technology to further enhance the safety and security of the Maldivian borders.
In a special message delivered on the occasion of Customs' 136th Anniversary, the Minister stated that Customs is one of the oldest institutions in the Maldives and plays an undeniably crucial role in maintaining national security.
The Minister highlighted that Customs staff diligently fulfill their responsibilities, particularly in safeguarding the country's gateways, fostering an enabling environment for trade, and securely managing a significant portion of the government's revenue. He further noted that under the guidance of the current administration, over the past two and a half years, Customs has achieved remarkable success in intercepting illicit drugs and harmful prohibited items, such as vapes, at the borders. The Minister expressed full confidence that Customs officers would continue these invaluable efforts in service of the public in the future.
Minister Ihsaan affirmed that future Customs operations would transition into a digital environment, facilitated by technology, to provide accessible and convenient services to the public. He also assured that Customs would be fully prepared and committed to integrating advanced technology into its enforcement operations, thereby fulfilling the significant responsibility of securing the borders more effectively than ever before.
