President Dr. Muizzu has instructed authorities to make passport services available on every island with a population of 1,000 or more.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office on Thursday, Homeland Security and Technology Minister Ali Ihusaan said it is President Dr. Muizzu's policy to make passports easily obtainable from as many islands in the Maldives as possible.
Before President Dr. Muizzu took office, passport services were provided from five locations. The service is now available from 39 locations, as well as in Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
The minister said the President has instructed that passport services be made available on every island with a population of 1,000 and on every island with an airport, and has ordered that these arrangements be in place before February next year. As part of this, the service must be launched on four more islands, and work on this is under way, he said.
