US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the war with Iran will end "very soon", insisting the conflict will conclude whenever he decides to bring it to a close.
"The Iran war will end very soon. It's going to end very soon, as soon as I want it to end, it'll end," Trump told reporters, adding that Iran would "never have a nuclear weapon" and that oil prices would "drop like a rock" once the fighting stops.
Speaking later at a campaign rally in Montana, Trump said Iran's military had been decimated and its leadership removed, but questioned who Washington was actually negotiating with. "I don't know who the hell we're negotiating with," he said.
The war, now nearing its eighth month, has pushed up fuel costs and strained the global economy, putting Republicans under pressure ahead of the US midterm elections. Talks between the United States and Iran have stalled in recent weeks.
