The Housing Ministry has decided to bring 14 plots of land under Malé City Council's control under the state's control, to carry out development works needed for the populations of Malé and Vilimalé and to provide infrastructure services.
According to the Housing Ministry's announcement, the plots being separated from the council's jurisdiction and taken by the state are:
- Sultan Park and the National Museum
- Fish Market
- Area adjacent to the Fish Market
- Local Market
- Land where the Malé City Council staff accommodation building stands
- Building where the traders' association office operates
- Kaniva area
- Artificial Beach
- Fishermen's Maizaan
- Thaisey Koshi
- Coolie Fachana Number 2
- Land used by the council to store plants
- Bondibath Park
- Rasfannu
In connection with this decision, anyone with a complaint is asked to submit it to the Housing Ministry within 14 days from today.
To enable the government to carry out development projects on lands under councils' jurisdiction, amendments were made to the Decentralisation Act with a Cabinet decision and began to be implemented last September. Under the law, the relevant ministry must pay compensation for investments the council has made on that land.
